Tom Marty and Luc Ouellet outshined their peers, winning Top Service Technician Awards at the Navistar Service-Technician Rodeo last month.
Marty, a service technician for Mid-State Truck, and Ouellet, a service technician for Camions International Elite, were two of 12 top service technicians from International and IC Bus dealers to compete in the 2011 rodeo, which took place at the Schaumburg Convention Center.
“Tom and Luc demonstrated the highest skills and abilities in key areas of commercial servicing among the top 12 Diamond-certified technicians competing in the event,” said Vaughn Allen, VP of product customer support at Navistar.
Twelve commercial bus and service technicians competed in various simulations that tested both their technical aptitude and speed. The competition included a series of 13 stations that simulated the service areas for air conditioning, brakes, drive train, electrical and MaxxForce engines. Scoring was based on how effectively the technicians could diagnose and fix the simulated problems at each station.
The dozen invited to the rodeo were selected out of 400 technicians at International and IC Bus dealers across North America after earning the highest scores on an online test. In addition to the Diamond certification from Navistar, all participating technicians also had either Automotive Service Excellence or Canadian Provincial certification.
“Those participating in this competition have completed all the required and optional trainings and are at the top of their game,” said John Pfennig, Navistar’s global education manager.
Technicians came from the following dealerships to compete in the rodeo: Camion Beaudoin (Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec), Camions International Elite (Quebec City, Quebec), Hunter Truck Sales and Service (Pittsburgh and Smithfield, Pa.), Lewis Motor Sales, Inc. (Barrie, Ontario), Maudlin International Trucks, Inc. (Orlando, Fla.), Mid-State Truck Service, Inc. (Plover, Wis.), Midwest Transit Equipment (Whitestown, Ind.), Roberts Truck Center (Albuquerque, N.M.), Rush Truck Centers of ID (Twin Falls, Idaho), Summit Motors Ltd. (Taber, Alberta), Truck King International Sales & Service (Bronx, N.Y.).
