Durham School Services, the employer of the school bus driver who was behind the wheel during a Nov. 21, 2016 crash that killed six students and injured dozens of others, will pay $323,000 to settle a lawsuit, reports the Associated Press.
The boy suffered a concussion, broken arm, cuts to his liver and permanent scarring on his arms as a result of the crash. Police allege the crash occurred while bus driver Johnthony Walker was speeding through a residential area and was also using his cell phone. Walker is out on bond while awaiting the start of his trial in February on multiple counts of felony vehicular manslaughter, assault and reckless driving.
Durham agreed to pay $250,000 to the injured boy plus another $73,000 in medical expenses.
The settlement was the fifth Durham has reached following the crash, and 30 other lawsuits are pending.
