The California Highway Patrol on Monday will conduct a school bus red-light and stop-arm enforcement operation focusing on drivers who fail to stop near school buses or take unsafe and illegal actions, reports the Napa Valley Register.
The operation will take place on Pope Valley Road in rural Napa County, the highway patrol said in a statement.
CHP is organizing the enforcement program to educate and encourage residents to develop and maintain safe practices while driving, following or approaching school buses throughout Napa County, according to the agency.
Officers will conduct enforcement operations on heavily traveled bus routes identified as having a high number of violating motorists. A plainclothes officer riding in a school bus will notify uniformed officers who are monitoring the area near a stopped bus about motorists who fail to stop when the red lights or stop arm are activated. Drivers who are stopped during this safety operation may be issued warnings or citations.
The school bus safety operation is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, using money from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
