Two Florida parents are arguing their local school district’s busing policy is discriminatory against divorced parents, reported FOX 4. Their requests to have the district accommodate their custody arrangements were reportedly denied.
“I almost feel like it’s discrimination a little bit. The children are being discriminated against because their parents are divorced,” said Kristin Failla, one of the parents.
Failla and her ex-husband want the bus to drop off their child, who is in sixth grade, at her home on the days she has custody, and at the father’s house when he has custody. However, a district spokesperson said district policy puts transportation as the responsibilty of the parent.
“Since many of our buses are full, we cannot reserve a seat part-time and possibly deprive a full-time rider,” the policy states.
