Shepherd Pleads Not Guilty to Indiana Homicide Charges

Alyssa Shepherd, the driver accused of killing three Indiana siblings after illegally passing their waiting school bus with the stop-arm extended, pleaded not guilty, reported IndyStar.com.

She was reportedly driving a pick-up truck with children of her own in the back seat, when she struck and killed three siblings Also injured was another student who was walking across the street to board the school bus.

The kids were crossing a two-lane highway on Oct. 30. Twins Xzavier and Mason Ingle, 6, and their sister Alivia Stahl, 9, were all killed. Maverik Lowe, 11, was critically injured.

According to the article, Shephard was charged with three felony counts of reckless homicide and a misdemeanor. The misdemeanor offense was for passing a school bus with the stop-arm extended and causing injury.

Shephard reportedly told police that she did not recognize the flashing lights were a school bus the morning of the incident. But a motorist trailing Shepherd said the school bus was recognizable.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5.
