#TSD2018: Sex Abuse a Difficult Discussion That Must Be Had

Sexual abuse occurring on the school bus is a subject no one wants to talk about. But a scan of the headlines uncovers far too many reported incidents, whether those involve only students or also school district employees.

That’s precisely the reason Linda F. Bluth, Ed.D. is facilitating a discussion at the TSD Conference on March 11.

Day three of the event in Frisco, Texas starts with a keynote address by autism and behavioral expert Jo Mascorro before Bluth, an expert witness and the retired director of quality assurance and monitoring for the Maryland State Department of Education, and her panel tackle the sexual abuse topic in one of the opening breakout sessions.

Bluth is joined by fellow TSD Tenured Faculty member Alexandra Robinson, executive director of the New York City Department of Education’s Office of School Transportation, as well as by Launi Schmutz of Washington County School District in Utah and Tina Spence of the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

Other highlights on Sunday include a panel on reducing risk and liability; wheelchair securement lessons as taught by crash tests; influencing school administration policies for positive effects on transportation; making informed IEP decisions; balancing FERPA compliance with school bus driver and parental right to know; and how to conduct an internal investigation.

The day concludes with a Mardi Gras themed Trade Show Sneak Peek Reception.
