Massachusetts School District Selects First Student for Transportation Services

LAKEVILLE, Mass. — First Student, the industry’s leading provider of student transportation solutions, has been awarded a new contract to provide student transportation for the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District beginning with the 2016-2017 school year.

The three-year agreement includes the operation, maintenance and management of all student transportation services. First Student has partnered with local school districts for more than a century to deliver safe, quality and effective student transportation solutions.

First Student is replacing the district’s current school buses with an entirely new fleet. The buses will be equipped with leading-edge technology, including GPS, crossing gates and the Child Check-Mate System. First Student leads the industry by installing advanced tools on its buses. The company also offers customized fleet management and maintenance programs that help school districts improve bus reliability and reduce the overall costs of transportation.

“We look forward to working with the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District for the upcoming school year and beyond,” said First Student Area General Manager Dave Collins. “First Student has the insights, expertise and resources to deliver exceptional transportation services which result in the best start and finish to the school day for the students and families we serve.”

First Student will also work with the district to maximize route efficiencies. The company has a dedicated team of in-house experts focused on providing comprehensive consulting services that go beyond daily bus operations.

“Student safety is our number one priority,” said Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District Superintendent Richard Medeiros. “We are confident First Student will deliver the high-quality transportation services we expect, while continuously looking at ways to make the experience even better for our students who ride the bus.”

First Student expects to transport nearly 3,000 students in the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District each school day. The company provides transportation for nearly 50 school districts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
