New York Places Trans Tech’s All-Electric N.Y.-Made eSeries on State Contract

WARWICK, N.Y. — Trans Tech announced today that its all-electric eSeries is the first New-York-made all-electric school bus to earn a spot on New York’s Type-A school bus contract. That allows school districts, for the first time in state history, to purchase a New-York-made all-electric school bus from state contract.

New York State made history by adding Trans Tech’s all-electric eSeries to the state’s procurement vehicle for school districts.  It marks the first time in state history that an all-electric school bus was awarded a spot on the state’s school bus contract. Trans Tech’s eSeries was one of two electric school buses that earned a spot with Trans Tech’s being the only New-York-made all-electric Type-A school bus.

“It is truly a pioneering milestone to be among the first all-electric Type-A school buses awarded a spot on the New York State contract,” said Trans Tech President, John Phraner.  “Trans Tech is committed to developing and manufacturing not only the safest school buses on the road, but also the most efficient, and our all-electric eSeries is a testament to that commitment.”

Trans Tech builds the eSeries on a Ford E450 chassis in partnership with Motiv Power Systems of California who manufactures the powertrain. The all-electric eSeries is the first and only all-electric school bus in operation in New York. The Trans Tech eSeries is being operated by New York school bus contractor, Education Bus, on Long Island for the Copiague Public School District.

Trans Tech’s Trans Star also earned a spot on the New York State Contract. The Trans Star, which is built on Ford’s world-renowned Transit chassis, is a customer-inspired Type-A school bus that comes standard with Trans Tech’s signature aerodynamic design, industry-leading fuel efficiency, pan-formed galvanized steel floors for toughness, and the company’s Versa-Track seating system for maximum versatility.

The customer-inspired and fuel-efficient Trans Star is already an instant hit with one customer placing an order for nearly 80 school buses and many more customers placing orders for the current purchasing cycle.

The eSeries all-electric school bus has not received a lot of attention from school districts yet due to the price differential between its all-electric powertrain and Trans Tech’s fuel-efficient conventional powertrains. However, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority does offer a $90,000 voucher incentive program to help offset the incremental cost between the conventional chassis and the Motiv Power Systems all-electric powertrain for the Ford E450 chassis.  Apply now for the electric school bus vouchers under NYSERDA’s NYT-VIP program – the funds must be redeemed by June 30, 2018.  (Visit: https://truck-vip.ny.gov)
