Superior Energy Propane School Bus Award

CLEVELAND — Superior Energy Systems announced today that Mike Walters, VP of safety and training, has been awarded the National Propane Gas Association’s (NPGA) coveted Individual Safety Award.

The award was presented on June 4 during the NPGA board meeting and annual Propane Days lobbying event. Mike joins nine other award recipients that have been named over the past 21 years. NPGA’s Technical Standards and Safety committee chose recipients based on their experience, accomplishments, and commitment to serving the propane industry, specifically in safety and training.

“No one is more deserving of this award,” said Don Fernald, president and CEO of Superior Energy Systems. “Mike’s endless determination and dedication to the propane industry, particularly in safety and training, has benefited not only Superior, but countless additional industry employees. He is a true asset to all of us.”

As a member of the propane industry for 40 years, with more than 25 years as a safety professional, Mike’s educational background includes the New York State Academy of Fire Science, Syracuse University and Columbia Southern University. He is certified in Environmental Compliance and Accident Investigation from Columbia Southern University, as well as several certification areas of NPGA’s Certified Employee Training Program.

Mike is a former chairman of the Propane Education & Research Council’s (PERC) Safety & Training Advisory Committee, and is currently vice-chairman of the NPGA Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) Certification Committee. He is a member of an industry trade magazine editorial review board and is considered a subject matter expert in the development of safety and training programs within the propane industry.

In addition, Mike serves on the board of the Ohio Propane Gas Association, and multiple NFPA and UL Technical Committees.
