NASDPTS Names Hood New Executive Director Starting In Summer

charlie-hoodThe National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services named Charlie Hood its next executive director. He replaces Bob Riley, who announced his retirement in December.

Max Christensen, president of NASDPTS and the state director of student transportation at the Iowa Department of Education, said Hood is expected to take over for Riley around the beginning of July. Riley’s last day with the association is June 30, but Christensen explained that Hood is hosting the 68th Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference in Daytona Beach, Fla., June 28 to July 2.

Hood served as president of NASDPTS from October 2010 through October 2012. In June, he will celebrate 33 years with the Florida Department of Education as state director of student transportation. His responsibilities have included providing leadership, training and assistance to school districts and charter schools to ensure safe, cost-effective transportation for Florida’s public school students.

From 1975 through 1981, Hood was a master ASE automotive and truck technician at dealerships in the Tallahassee, Fla., area and was a technical writer of vocational instruction manuals in diagnostics and repair of automotive technology at Florida State University.
