Navistar announced it is recalling certain model-year 2011 and 2012 IC school buses to fix possible electrical shorts originating from battery cables that may rub and incorrectly installed floor channel reinforcements.
The first NHTSA recall specifically centers on the positive battery cable that may rub on the hydraulic cooler reservoir mounting bracket. A fire could occur as a result. It is thought that 431 of the vehicles manufactured from Feb. 4, 2010 through June 16 of this year are affected.
Navistar added that it will notify customers on or before Sept. 16 that dealers will repair the shorts free of charge. Owners can also call (800) 448-7825 and reference recall campaign number 11510.
The other NHTSA recall affects 340 IC RE school buses manufactured from Oct. 8, 2009 through April 14 of this year that fail to comply with seat-back, rear-force and displacement requirements of FMVSS No. 222, “School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection.”
Navistar added that non-compliance to the standard increases the risk of a rearward ejection of passengers from their seats. Customers will also be notified by Sept. 16 of free fixes by dealers.
