Private companies in the Lone Star State that own three or more vehicles — including school bus companies — can receive incentives to change their vehicles to propane autogas.
The Propane Council of Texas, which operates under the sponsorships of the Propane Education & Research Council, has been administering a special PERC-backed incentive program targeted specifically to private fleets since 2010. Funding has been reauthorized for 2014.
Private companies that qualify must have three of more of their vehicles registered in the state, and their fleets must not already have propane vehicles. The grants are $5,000 toward a propane autogas vehicle conversion and/or $7,500 toward the purchase of an OEM propane vehicle. Companies can access up to $15,000, with grants available on a first-come, first-served basis. All vehicle types (light-, medium- and heavy-duty) are eligible for grant funding.
The incentives also apply to vehicle conversions to propane autogas, but the installer must be licensed by the Railroad Commission of Texas.
The Propane Council of Texas encourages fleets to get pre-qualified before buying new vehicles or performing conversions. Program guidelines and applicable forms can be found here.
