Recorded: Securing Difficult Mobility Devices

School Transportation News hosted a webinar from Q’Straint and Sure-Lok on March 30 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the topic of securing mobility devices.

In 1975, IDEA was passed, which made schools national leaders in providing equal services for the disabled community. Today, school transportation providers are still consistently struggling to safely transport some students with disabilities and to secure the most difficult mobility devices.

While wheelchair securement equipment has improved dramatically since IDEA took effect, there are still thousands of wheelchairs on the market that aren’t designed to be transported.

Join Darren Reaume, national training manager for Q’Straint and Sure-Lok, as he leads a presentation that will review basic mobility device securement principles and discuss troubleshooting practices for situations where achieving those principles is difficult or even impossible.

Reaume has been invited by numerous agencies throughout the country to speak on safe and effective wheelchair securement practices and regulatory issues. Prior to entering the transportation industry, Reaume spent 10 years working in higher education at Tufts University and Amherst College, focusing on issues of diversity and student access.

The webinar reviewed significant advancements in securement equipment, wheelchairs and regulation that have the long-term potential to alleviate these securement difficulties. View the webinar in its entirety, below.
