Attendees at the TSD Conference in Frisco, Texas this month will receive detail on a grant program operated by Safe Fleet that encourages and supports efforts to start or continue existing programs to address childhood bullying in their local communities.
The company, which operates 11 commercial vehicle brands including Safe Fleet Mirrors, Seon, Specialty Manufacturing, and Transpec, announced on Thursday that it is accepting applications for its 2018 United to End Bullying (UAB) Grant. It will award $50,000 to school administrators, educators, counselors, school transportation teams, and nonprofit organizations working with students across North America.
Several organizations including PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center have found through research that students with disabilities are much more likely to be bullied than their nondisabled peers. Safe Fleet said it will offer detail on the program and grants during the TSD Trade Show on March 12.
Programs eligible for the UAB funding include bullying education, kindness initiatives and social emotional learning to teach and inspire resilience and compassion in students. Safe Fleet said in a statement that the goal of the grants is to increase safety and to end bullying. The company added that grant winners can select to receive funds in the form of a credit for video-based safety equipment on school buses.
“Safety for children and adults continue to guide all of our decisions,” said John R. Knox, chairman, president and CEO of Safe Fleet. “We are invested in helping to end bullying and count on the fact that every bullying program or kindness initiative introduced to young people will have ongoing positive ripple effects.”
The application period closes on April 23.
