Roundup: A Bus Collides with a Buggy, a Bus Driver Assaulted and More

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it yield to a school bus. A minor collision between a Michigan school bus and a horse and buggy resulted in no injuries. Four students were aboard the bus that crashed into the horse-drawn buggy. The accident occurred after the bus rolled to a stop and then resumed moving again, pulling into the intersection at the same time as the buggy, which did not have a stop sign. The horse smacked into the front fender of the bus. The animal emerged unharmed. Both the bus and buggy sustained minor damage.

A Florida mother, who was among a trio of parents accused of attacking a district bus driver, was sentenced to the three days she’s already served for the incident. The assault occurred in April 2014 at a bus stop after the driver closed the bus doors on children who wouldn’t form a single-file line in order to disembark. His behavior angered the mother and two other men, who stormed the bus and beat the driver. All three were arrested and charged with battery of a school board employee.

A 13-year-old girl could be charged with assault after she stabbed a 12-year-old boy who made vulgar comments toward her. Michigan authorities believe bullying was the trigger that led to the middle school student assaulting her classmate with a pencil while the pair rode the school bus. However, police stressed that her behavior is no excuse for violence. The victim is recovering. “The boy was conscious and alert, talking to us. He had what ended up being a pretty minor stab wound in his neck. He got cut with a pencil,” said a local police sergeant. Both students were released to their parents. The investigation is ongoing and the school is still determining whether either child will be suspended. Authorities hope the incident serves as lesson to parents to talk to their children about bullying before behavior escalates.

A former Virginia bus driver was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for producing child pornography of an area juvenile. Prosecutors said that the 34-year-old man produced the illicit material of an underage female he had babysat, sexually abused and exploited multiple times. The defendant was caught after international authorities detected him uploading several pornographic images of the young girl engaged in explicit conduct to a website from his personal residence. The man had pleaded guilty in Oct. 2015.
