A 4-year-old girl from Arkansas fell out of the back of a moving bus while the vehicle continued its way down the road.
According to CBS, the child had accidentally unlatched the back door of the bus, which caused her to fall out.
The child is alive after the incident and was hospitalized after the fall broke her jaw.
Footage of the fall was captured on volunteer firefighter Ryan Ciampoli’s dash camera as he drove down highway 65 in Harrison, Ark.
The video shows the bus’ rear door swing open as the child falls to the pavement and the bus keeps going. The bus appears to be painted white, and it was unknown at this report if the bus was operated by a school district, private school, Head Start agency or daycare.
Ciampoli, a licensed EMT, saw the incident unfold before him and he immediately stopped his vehicle to assist the toddler in the middle of the street.
In the video, Ciampoli is seen carrying the girl in his arms to safety and mentioned she was unconscious at first, but later woke up.
Ciampoli checked the child’s vital signs before paramedics arrived at the scene.
The bus driver was unaware of the incident and returned to the scene 15 minutes after the girl fell out of the bus according to Ciampoli.
The 4-year-old will undergo jaw surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
