Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards honors the best local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, video and film productions, and online commercials, video and film. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

Houston ISD was the online video bronze winner for 2013 under the category of “Internet/Online Video-Education.” To date, the video has received nearly 38,000 views on YouTube. It covers such topics as proper boarding procedures, how to sit on a bus and the importance of reporting bullying.

“The Houston Independent School District Transportation Department’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft, and serves as a testament to great film and video production,” said Linda Day, executive director of the Telly Awards.

Students from Peck Elementary, Yates High School, and the High School for Visual and Performing Arts were included in the video, as well as district bus drivers and attendants.

Chester Glaude, HISD’s transportation operations manager, said the safety video was fun to make and well received by the community during National School Bus Safety Week. “Being recognized for this bus safety message is reason for everyone at HISD to be proud,” he said.

About 925 HISD school buses travel 84,000 miles each school day as they transport more than 32,000 students to and from school.
