Navistar is recalling 15,457 school buses to fix an electrical short in the engine control module that could lead to a vehicle fire.
The NHTSA recall affects model-year 2007 through 2012 IC CE and BE school buses manufactured from June 27, 2006 through March 23 of this year. The buses are all equipped with MaxxForce 7 engines. Navistar said the positive alternator cable may rub on the engine control module mounting bracket, which can cause chafing of the insulation.
Navistar is notifying customers by Sept. 23 that IC Bus dealers will inspect the buses and make any necessary replacements of the alternator cable and the insulation of the tie straps to route the alternator cable away from the engine control module mounting bracket. Any repairs made will be free of charge.
