The National Association for Pupil Transportation released the current candidates for two of three vacant positions on the board of directors, in advance of the election that will take place this fall in Kansas City.
At this writing, Peter Lawrence, the director of transportation for Fairport Central School District in New York, and Richard Gallagher, director of transportation at Bay Shore Schools in New York, are running for Region 1. Peter Mannella, the executive director for the New York Association for Pupil Transportation, has served as director for the 11 Mid-Atlantic and New England States as well as the District of Columbia, Quebec and Europe and also leaves the board this fall.
NAPT will also hold a special election for Region 2, which represents nine Southeastern states as well as West Virginia, Maryland and the province of Ontario, as former director Barry Sudduth has assumed the president-elect position but has one year remaining on his board term. There were no candidates at this writing.
Theresa Anderson and Dick Fisher are vying for Region 5, which represents 11 western states and provinces plus Japan and the west Pacific. Steven Kalmes, a past NAPT president, sees his term expire this fall.
Sudduth’s seat on the board has been filled on an interim basis by John Hazelette, the retired director of transportation for Norfolk Public Schools in Virginia and not a consultant for school facilities and transportation.
NAPT bylaws state that any individual who has “completed two years as a member in good standing” and is active in the association is eligible to run for the board of directors. Eligible members must be nominated by a minimum of two “Individual-Active” members from their particular NAPT region. Nominations can be made by emailing NAPT Executive Director Mike Martin.
NAPT members will vote on Nov. 8 during the association’s Summit Trade Show in Kansas City.
