Bus Driver Charged After Asking Student to Touch Live Wires

A Pennsylvania school bus driver is facing charges after asking a student to move a live wire that was obstructing the bus’ path, reported Action News 4

It all started when a goose flew into a transformer, and several lines were downed as a result. The bus reportedly became entagled in the wires and the local power company was called in to help.

Police reviewed bus video and determined that Patricia Ryan, the bus driver, notified dispatch about the problem, and that dispatch told her to avoid the downed lines. The bus proceeded and became entangled in the lines. The driver is then seen saying “You know what, can one of you get out and move that wire…?”

An 11-year-old student did as asked and came back into the bus holding his right hand. The boy was not seriously hurt. The driver is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.
