Roundup: Students Honored for Saving Bus, Indecent Exposure at Bus Stop and More

Earlier this year, a New York bus driver collapsed at the wheel. Two students aboard the bus jumped into action, helping the driver stop the bus. They were able to press the emergency brake and call 911. The two students were hailed as heroes for preventing what could have been a tragic accident, and are now being recognized by the school district with plaques for their historic efforts. “It was pretty scary but I’m glad he’s all okay,” said one student, speaking about the driver. The student said she’d never forget that morning.

Some people simply don’t believe that they have to follow societal norms, as a string of indecent-exposure incidents directed at young girls has forced police to increase patrols of area bus stops throughout a North Carolina town. So far, two incidents have been reported, one involving a person inside a four-door dark blue or bluish-green vehicle pulling up to a bus stop, exposing and fondling himself with the window open. It has yet to be determined whether or not the events involve the same person. Police have urged people to report any suspicious activity around the bus stops immediately by calling 911. Children are also urged to run away, make noise to attract attention and tell a trusted adult in the event that someone exposes himself.

An eastern Washington transportation department is investigating an incident of a driver refusing to open windows on a hot day. “My daughter had told me that some of the kids were being silly, and the original bus driver had said, ‘If you don’t calm down I am not going to have the windows shut in the summer time,’” said one parent. The elementary students claim that the driver allegedly kept the windows shut while temperatures where in the mid-70s. One student reportedly passed out from the heat. The school district expects to learn more from the investigation. For now, the bus driver is off the route and on administrative leave. “She should never ever be driving a bus again,” said the parent.

A bus driver has been accused of dabbling in child pornography. This time, in central New York, a 37-year-old school bus driver has been arrested on charges of first-degree attempted disseminating indecent material to minors and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. The driver worked a regular bus route for four months, but has been fired. Authorities have not explained what the driver is accused of doing or what prompted the investigation. The driver has been arraigned and being held at a county jail on $5,000 bail.
