First Student Drivers a Top Reason to Love the Bus

CINCINNATI, Ohio — School bus drivers are the most highly-trained, tested and scrutinized drivers on the road. First Student joins the American School Bus Council (ASBC) in recognizing drivers and monitors across North America during Love the Bus Month, for the care, attention and dedication they bring to their ever-important jobs.

More than 26 million students ride school buses each day. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, school buses are the safest way for students to get to and from school, approximately 70 times safer than passenger cars and 10 times safer than walking.

“School bus drivers and monitors are the faces of school transportation,” said First Student President Dennis R. Maple. “They recognize the opportunity they have to directly and positively impact each student’s day. We are proud of the work our drivers and monitors do and appreciate their commitment to excellence. They make it easy for the students, families and school districts we serve to love the bus every day.”

First Student drivers help deliver a ride that is twice as safe as the industry average. The company invests heavily in driver training and development.

Advances in technology and safety features have also made school buses safer than ever. First Student led the industry by installing GPS systems and crossing gates on all buses.

The ASBC created Love the Bus Month to raise awareness and appreciation for the experience of riding the school bus, as well as provide recognition for the drivers who play an essential role in the school day.
