Liberty County School System Launches Transportation Notification Systems

HINESVILLE, Ga. — The Liberty County School System Transportation Department is using a mobile text service and social media postings to alert families to any potential bus delays during the morning and afternoon commutes.

School buses can be delayed for any number of reasons, including weather, traffic or mechanical issues. In an effort to help keep children safe, the new systems will give parents the tools to better plan for those unexpected delays.

To enroll to receive text messages from the OneCall System, parents must text the word ALERT to the number 22300 from the device that they want to receive messages on. Standard messaging rates may apply, and individuals using the program should check their mobile phone policies regarding text messages. Parents who want to edit phone numbers or add numbers to sync with OneCall, should contact their child’s school.

The alerts will be issued when a bus is delayed by at least 10 minutes. That means when it is cold or raining outside, families that are notified of bus delays can keep their kids inside from the elements.

The LCSS Transportation Department is also using Facebook to post delays for families who choose to use social media. The link is at https://www.facebook.com/LCSSTransportation-Dept-479480288927021

Students are still encouraged to be at their bus stop 5 minutes prior to the pick-up time to ensure schedules run on-time. The LCSS Transportation Department supports nearly 10,000 students through safe and efficient home-to-school and extra-curricular transportation.
