Bush Groups Expand Texas Student Transportation Fund

The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the George W. Bush Foundation have expanded their transportation program to include all Title I schools in the state of Texas, with support from the CFP Foundation and the Longwell Family Foundation.

The program reimburses schools in the Title I program for the busing costs for field trips to the GWB Library and Museum. The Title I program provides funding to schools with high percentages of students from low-income families to help improve educational opportunities.

According to the Library, approximately 9,000 students from 100 schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area benefitted from the transportation fund last school year.

“Education is one of our primary missions, and we are proud that last year with the transportation fund program we were able to make a difference in the lives of over 9,000 students in the DFW area,” said Alan Lowe, the director of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

“Now with our wonderful partnership with the Bush Foundation and generous sponsors, we have been able to renew and expand this important program that helps make this historic institution more accessible for all students in Texas,” he added.

The reimbursement is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, so qualifying school districts are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The application form can be found here.

There are many programs around the country available to help school districts with shrinking field trip transportation budgets, such as grants to visit national parks and state landmarks.
