Collins Bus Announces Recall to Fix Handful of Air Conditioning Units

Collins Bus Corporation is recalling 11 buses from its Type A Collins school bus line to provide retrofit kits from Carrier to fix evaporator units that may cause a vehicle fire.

The NHTSA recall published today centers on model year 2006 through 2008 Collins Bantam, Grand Bantam and Super Bantam buses manufactured from Aug. 23, 2006 through Feb. 1, 2008 and equipped with Carrier Gen V EM-1 evaporator units. Collins said the fuses in these air-conditioning systems may melt over time or because of excessive temperature or vehicle vibration. High resistance and arcing could result, and the melting of the fuse could spark a fire.

Customers will be notified by Collins on or around Oct. 28 about how to obtain the Carrier retrofit kits. Owners may contact Carrier at (800) 793-4741 or Collins at (620) 662-9000.
