Fire Claims Three Dozen School Buses in Wisconsin

School bus contractor Dousman Transport Co. near Milwaukee told School Transportation News it is thankful to local firefighters and fellow school bus companies after a fire on Sunday claimed 34 school buses.

Robert Nelson, president of Dousman, said the cause is still under investigation with the help of local law enforcement and the company’s insurance provider. In all, the fire destroyed 34 school buses.

The North Lake Fire Department and all surrounding departments responded to the blaze.

The Dousman buses served Arrowhead Area Schools, but Nelson added that additional Dousman locations in the area provided spare buses as did two competitor companies to ensure there were no delays on Monday. Those companies are Kobussen Buses, Ltd. and Nelson’s Bus Service.

“The outpouring of support from numerous other bus companies around the state and local businesses and individuals is truly humbling,” said Nelson. “We can’t thank them enough as we work to get our operations back to normal.”
