Industry Veteran Roscoe Joins Fortress Mobile International

Mike Roscoe, a former state director of pupil transportation for West Virginia and Kentucky as well as a past NAPT president and board member, is the new business development and territorial manager for video surveillance provider Fortress Mobile.

Roscoe is a 38-year veteran of the industry, a past recipient of the NAPT Distinguished Service Award and most recently was the director of school bus products for C.E. White Co., a position he held from 2002 until departing this spring for Fortress. His first day with the video company was May 1. He said he was “honored and proud” to work at C.E. White, now a part of HSM Solutions, under VP Bob Knapp, who retired in March. Roscoe called Knapp his mentor as well as friend.

“I look forward to bringing my expertise into the arena with (Fortress),” he added. “Shoulder to shoulder, we will continue to bring not only the safety of our children, but also that of all passengers, to the forefront in today’s transit marketplace.”

Prior to joining C.E. White in 2002, Roscoe was the state director at the West Virginia Department of Education from 1987 to 1991 and then held the same position at the Kentucky Department of Education from 1991 to 2002. He was state director when a drunk driver crashed head-on into a church bus carrying children and adult chaperones home from a trip to an amusement park. The crash spurred changes in school bus design and emergency exits as well as the formation of M.A.D.D.

A former local student transportation director, teacher and coach, Roscoe was NAPT president in 1992 and is also a former director of the association’s Region 2 as well as a former director-at-large and NAPT’s first chair of the Hall of Fame Committee, which was started by then-President George E. Donn in 1997. He was chair of NAPT’s History, Archives and Hall of Fame Committee. In 2009 he became NAPT’s first affiliate member director. A former treasurer for NASDPTS, he was a two-time president of the Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference.
