Micro Bird Plant Receives ISO Certification for Manufacturing

Micro Bird has obtained ISO 9002:2008 certification, signaling that the Type A manufacturer’s 165,000 square-foot plant in Drummondville, Quebec meets new international standards for safety, quality and durability.

ISO 9001:2008 uses a process approach for developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of quality management programs and ensures that manufactured products are safe, reliable and of good quality. The certification is also meant to ensure customer satisfaction by establishing processes for continuous improvement.

“Micro Bird is proud to receive this certification as it continues to reinforce our corporate culture which highlights quality and reputation,” said Steve Girardin, president and CEO of Micro Bird, Inc. “Throughout North America, Micro Bird is known as the premier manufacturer of Type A school, activity and commercial buses. This ISO designation strengthens Micro Bird and Blue Bird’s commitment to building innovative and quality buses that our customers value.”

Micro Bird employs 300 people at its Quebec plant. The company is a joint venture established in 2009 between Blue Bird and the Girardin family, but the relationship goes back nearly 50 years.

Micro Bird’s certification means all Blue Bird brand school buses meet the same manufacturing standards. Blue Bird’s 1-million square-foot plant in Fort Valley, Georgia was 9002:2008 certified in April 2013. That plant employs more than 1,600 people.
