Micro Bird Recalls Center on School Bus Body Joint Strength, Child Restraint Anchorages

Micro Bird announced last month that it is fixing issues in its G5 and MB II model school buses to bring them into compliance with FMVSS 221 and FMVSS 225, respectively.

The manufacturer filed a NHTSA recall on Dec. 21 for approximately 1,200 of its G5 school buses with a joint on the metal ceiling panel that may separate from the interior compartment structure. The affected buses are model years 2009 through 2012 and were manufactured from Nov. 24, 2009 through Dec. 3, 2011. Micro Bird said it would notify owners and that dealers will make repairs free of charge. The recall was expected to begin in February.

A separate recall of 48 Micro Bird MB II school buses will install two sets of lower anchorages used to restrain portable child seats. Micro Bird said the anchorages were not installed during production. The 2011 model-year MB II school buses were manufactured last year from Aug. 16 through Sept. 16. This month, dealers are expected to begin installing the missing anchorages.
