Navistar Recall to Fix Reflective Tape Issue on Emergency Doors

Navistar announced it is recalling 70 IC school buses to comply with FMVSS 217, “Bus Emergency Exits and Windowo Retention and Release,” because the retroflective tape on the rear emergency door may not have been completed properly.

The reflective tape for rear exit doors on some model year 2008 through 2012 IC BE, CE and FE school buses may have not been totally completed, the company said in the recall notice filed with NHTSA on July 21. The buses were manufactured from Nov. 1, 2006 through May 2 of this year. Navistar added that the noncompliance with FMVSS 217 may reduce the conspicuity of the rear door, which can negatively affect the ability of emergency responders to identify and gain access to the rear exit. The result can be complications during an evacuation.

Owners will be notified on or around Aug. 26 that dealers will inspect the buses and add reflective tape, if necessary.
