NSTA Awards Scholarships to School Bus Drivers

Five school bus drivers from across North America won a combined $1,000 in scholarships from the National School Transportation Association to continue their safety education.

The drivers participated in the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition held July 20 in Charleston, South Carolina. This scholarship program provides additional educational opportunities, NSTA said in a statement.

This year’s winners are:

  • Brian Lyons of Canandaigua, New York
  • Lisa Loring of Otis, Oregon
  • Melanie Nelson of Bothell, Washington
  • Gina Palmieri of Oak Ridge, New Jersey
  • Harley High of Industry, Maine

“We congratulate each of this year’s winners on their accomplishments. There was a lot of interest in this year’s scholarship awards and we thank everyone who applied,” said NSTA President Tim Flood. “We look forward to next year’s competition as well as offering the scholarship opportunity again in 2015.”
