School Bus Surveillance Firm American Traffic Solutions Gets New Name

It’s presumably business as usual for school district customers of school bus illegal passing surveillance and enforcement programs from American Traffic Solutions (ATS) amid a relaunch of the brand as Verra Mobility Corp.

School Transportation News was unable to reach a company representative with several phone calls for comment, and an email message had yet to be returned at this writing. But the new Verra Mobility website listed “School Bus Stop Arm Enforcement” among its core competencies to create “safe cities.” The page linked back to the American Traffic Solutions Crossing Guard website.

Verra Mobility resulted from the merging of ATS, a portfolio company of Platinum Equity, with Euro Parking Collection, Plc., and Highway Toll Administration. Platinum Equity completed both acquisitions earlier this spring. It also acquired ATS in May 2017.

The name American Traffic Solutions will no longer be used, a company press release stated on Thursday, although the company’s website remained active at this writing. The new company name, said Verra Mobility CEO David Roberts in a statement, better reflects the merger of the three companies as unified, international leaders in safe and smart mobility.

“Modes of transportation are increasingly connected, allowing everything from real-time, traffic-adjusted directions on our dashboards, to vehicles that can wirelessly communicate with surrounding vehicles, infrastructure and even pedestrians. Keeping people safe, while providing them the seamless experience they expect, is becoming harder than ever before,” added Roberts, who previously was president and CEO of ATS. “We’re helping to build a world that moves more easily and more safely, serving many different customers with solutions they need now and innovations they will demand in the future.”

The new name, Verra Mobility, combines the Latin root for truth, ver, with the Latin word for earth, terra. The company added that the new name speaks to the company’s drive to always do what’s right. It also highlights that the company’s actions can move the world with smart mobility solutions.

“Verra Mobility is a high-tech, high-passion company that is prepared to provide safe and smart mobility solutions across the globe,” Roberts added. “Our new brand name better represents who we are and our vision of where mobility is headed. We’re excited for this new chapter in our journey.”
