Thomas Built Buses to Fix Power Cable Corrosion

Thomas Built Buses filed a recall notice for 3,300 Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses manufactured with pass-through power cable connection that are prone to electrical shorts.

The vehicles are model year 2005 through 2007 and were manufactured between April 5 and May 26, 2005. The power cables are located behind the driver-side kick panel and may corrode. An electrical fault or short circuit may result in a vehicle fire.

While there was no remedy at this writing, Thomas said it would send owners an interim notice advising them to perform inspections of the power terminals. If corrosion is detected, they should contact their local authorized service facility, were repairs will be made free of charge.

The recall was filed under NHTSA campaign ID No. 11V503000. The recall is expected to begin on Dec. 15.
