PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The crash of an SUV into an empty school bus last week in southeast Michigan claimed the life of a second person on Tuesday of this week, when Michigan State Police announced that 28-year-old Antoinette Butler of Ypsilanti, who was a passenger in the SUV, died last Friday, reported AP and the Detroit Free Press.
The accident occurred on eastbound I-94 near U.S. 23 in Pittsfield Township, about 30 miles southwest of Detroit. No students were reportedly riding in the school bus, but five people were injured. However, 42-year-old tow truck driver Nader Chehadi (Ypsilanti, Mich.) was killed as he worked on the disabled bus on May 29. As of today, three of the injured are still being hospitalized.
According to news reports, Michigan State Police said the driver of the SUV “was unlicensed and made an abrupt lane change just before the crash.”
