Austin District to Get New Bus Cameras

The Board of Trustees for the Austin Independent School District approved $400,000 for new school bus surveillance cameras, reported KXAN.

As of now, 417 of the district’s 523 total buses have functioning cameras. The money will be used to replace or install cameras on 338 buses, ensuring that all buses eventually have them.

“We want to know what goes on inside of our buses,” said Kris Hafezizadeh, AISD’s director of transportation. “$400,000, it is a lot of money, but it has no value when it comes to student safety,” said Hafezizadeh.
