The Star Tribune reports that a school bus driver in New Hope, Minnesota remains in jail without bail pending charges she was high on drugs during her morning route. None of the special needs students on board were said to be injured.
A 911 call came in at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday to report a school bus traveling “on the shoulder and erratically” after the students were dropped off at North Education Center Academy. State patrol pulled over Connie J. Krystofiak, 66, near Interstate 394 in Minnetonka afte rhte Department of Transportation used traffic management cameras to track the bus.
The report states that the troopers boarded the bus and immediately noticed signs of impairment. They instigated a field sobriety test, and Krystofiak was then taken into custody.
The state patrol added it will be six to eight weeks before they receive the results from her toxicology report.
The school district sent a statement to families that applauded the 911 caller, adding that the school administration is working with police to “ensure that all appropriate actiosn are taken.”
“There is nothing more important thatn our students’ safety,” the statement read.
