S.C. Drivers Who Put Kids At Risk Going Unpunished

Drivers are putting children’s lives at risk every day, and they’re getting away with it. According to WLTX 19, 280 school bus stop arm violations happen every single day in South Carolina.

In 2014, South Carolina passed a law that allowed districts to install cameras on school buses to catch violators who illegally pass a stopped school bus. However, even with the new technology, drivers are, more often than not, going unpunished.

It’s scary,” said Jada Garris, a Midlands bus driver and spokesperson for the SAVE Campaign, who brought these concerns to the state house, which caught the attention of state Senator Wes Hayes.

“We have an unenforceable law,” Hayes said. “That we’re having constant stop arm violations through the state and people can not be penlized.”
