Miss. School Bus Monitor Accused of Hitting Autistic Child

A school bus monitor has been charged by police in Pearl, Mississippi for hitting an student with autism, MS News Now reports.

Mattie Lister, 71, was charged with misdemeanor abuse of a vulnerable person after allegedly hitting the 7 year old.

The victim’s family, with help from Pearl Public Schools superintendent, opened an investigation on the incident.

Investigators indicated the incident occurred May 19 on a Pearl special-needs school bus. School bus video surveillance, according to Pearl Police, show Lister striking the victim in the face.

The district then immediately fired Lister. Reports also detailed that the  driver of the same Pearl special needs bus is under investigation.

Lister is currently free on $10,000 bond and is expected back in court later this month.
