The Journal noted that this week marks National School Bus Safety Week, an initiative that promotes bus safety throughout the country.
According to Berkeley County Schools, the district is encouraging the community to be an active part in raising awareness for bus safety in order to keep it’s students and residents of Berkeley County safe.
J.R. Hollen, director of general education for the Berkeley County Schools’ transportation department, said the centerpiece of National School Bus Safety Week is the national poster contest.
Hollen said thousands of students from various school districts throughout the U.S. participate in local and state-level competitions to select art work that depicts school bus safety-related themes and encourages and promotes school bus safety. The winning posters are used to promote safer school transportation for everyone.
