Diesel is the New Alternative Fuel

The dominance of diesel fuel has not waned in the school bus industry. Nearly 93 percent of all school buses purchased in the United States and Canada still operate on diesel fuel, despite a higher-than-ever focus on alternative fuel. New lower-emissions diesel engines gearing up for launch in just a few months are expected to further cement diesel’s position as the industry’s fuel of choice.

U.S. EPA, CARB Certify Blue Bird Gasoline Vision

Blue Bird announced that its Gasoline Vision school bus has received certification it exceeds the federal standard of 0.20 g/bhp-hr in nitrogen oxide emissions. EPA and the California Air Resources Board approved the bus last month.

New, Convertible Seating Solution from Blue Bird and HSM Offers Easy Transition to Seat Belts

FRISCO, Texas - In an announcement made at the Transporting Students with Disabilities (TSD) Conferencein Frisco, Texas, Blue Bird and supplier partner, HSM, announced an exclusive seating option that will be available for order for all Blue Bird and Micro Bird school buses in summer of 2017. This convertible solution allows the customer to change the seat back frame to have a three point or child-restraint seat without having to purchase all new seats for reinstallation into the bus.

Detroit Unveils New DD8 Medium-Duty Engine

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) and Detroit unveiled the new DD8 Medium-Duty Engine at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, presenting an eventual power option for school bus customers.
