PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. – Perhaps a likely theme for this year’s annual Compass Awards competition could be “Necessity is the mother of invention.” As the industry emerges from a challenging economic climate, the Transportation Marketing & Communications Association (TMCA) is encouraging transportation marketing and communications professionals to showcase how they have done more with less.
“The marketers who want to survive the recession have been forced to up the ante on creativity and leverage unique approaches this year,” said Dick Metzler, president of TMCA. “The Compass Awards are an important benchmark for how marketing and communications professionals can adjust their strategies and tactics effectively to clearly demonstrate they are contributing to their company’s bottom line profitability.”
Open to members and non-members, the Compass Awards recognize the best in marketing and communications within the transportation, logistics and passenger transit industries. Entries are judged by industry peers in 10 categories including integrated communications, single advertisement, advertising campaign, direct marketing campaign, communications collateral, publications, web-based marketing, multi-media marketing, special events and media relations.
Last year’s winners include: FedEx, Werner Enterprises, Exel Transportation Services, Con-way, Averitt Express, Ozburn-Hessey Logistics, Transplace, Virginia Railway Express, Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, Hyundai Translead, BCP Group, CirclePoint, City of Tempe, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Fresno Area Express, Riverside Transit Agency, Port of New Orleans, GO Transit, GRTC Transit System, Illinois Tollway, KG Partners, L.A. County Metro Transportation, MTA New York City Transit, Port of Seattle, Regional Transportation Commission, and Texas Department of Transportation. Winning entries have been featured in TMCA’s comprehensive collection, Best Practices in Transportation Marketing, which provides details on the company’s goals, objectives and measurable results for each project.
“This competition really ignites the passion of our industry by providing those in transportation marketing a chance to showcase their creativity as well as their most effective messaging,” said Kim Wade, TMCA Recognition Chair. “The bar continues to be raised each year, so we anticipate another tough competition.”
