IC Bus selected the Allison Transmission 2500 PTS as the exclusive solution for the CE Series gasoline school bus and as an option for the CE Series propane model, the companies announced.
Allison said the fully automatic Allison 2500 has no mechanical clutches that wear out, which saves on maintenance costs. It also offers “Continuous Power Technology” that increases productivity in stop-and-go driving. A torque converter enables more responsive acceleration, overcoming the slower startup that is sometimes associated with alternative fuels.
The company explained that the transmission reduces engine stress and increases ride comfortability for drivers and students alike, by more smoothly transferring power from the engine to the drivetrain.
“By creating automatic transmissions that enable the use of alternative fuels, we’re helping our customers reduce nitrogen oxide emissions,” said Heidi Schutte, VP of marketing and sales for the Americas with Allison Transmission. “Our flexible products are not only good for the environment, but they are ideally suited for a wide range of applications.”
IC Bus customers that purchase an alternative fuel school bus equipped with an Allison transmission receive a seven-year Allison warranty.
