PBS, National Head Start Association Develop Free Apps for Students

PBS KIDSĀ®, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Head Start Association recently launched a new program to offer developmentally appropriate mobile apps to children in Head Start programs at no cost.

Each Head Start program that signs up for the program will have the opportunity to request, receive and distribute free codes for two new Dinosaur Train apps based on the beloved PBS KIDS series produced by The Jim Henson Company. The apps are available for downloaded onto iPhones or iPads that programs use for students’ educational purposes ā€” either in their centers or in their respective homes.

“Dinosaur Train Camera Catch!” for the iPhone allows players to use their the cellphone camera to catch flying dinosaurs in a designated pattern, building patterning skills. The game becomes more challenging with each round of play. Meanwhile, “All Aboard the Dinosaur Train!” for the iPad helps build problem-solving and measurement skills by matching passengers with the correct train cars. A two-player mode lets kids play with a friend, sibling or caregiver.

Head Start programs can sign up for the program, request app codes and complete a registration form at pbskids.org/giftcodes.
