911 Call Released in Orange County School Bus Fire

In its investigation of the Orange County school bus that burst into flames, WESH 2 News has learned that the company that makes the bus recalled more than 15,000 buses in 2011 after it found a defect that could start a fire.

The bus was a 2009 International bus made by Navistar. Documents obtained by WESH 2 show that Navistar recalled the same make, model and year of that school bus in 2011 over a defective alternator cable, which the company warned could cause an “electrical short” or fire.

Authorities released the 911 call from school bus fire.

“The bus is on fire. It’s in flames, really bad now,” a caller told a 911 dispatcher.

“Where is the fire coming from?” the dispatcher said.

“Under the engine. It’s really bad.”
