Kansas Student Dead, Another Hurt Following Crash with School Bus

A high school student was killed and the teen driver was injured after their vehicle crashed into a school bus, with the Kansas City News reporting the school bus driver is alleged to be at fault.

The incident occurred Sept. 8. when two teens in a Chevrolet Malibu traveling west on K-254 collided with the school bus crossing the same highway and headed north.

Authorities said they believe the school bus driver, who was not identified at this time, failed to yield the right of way to the Malibu before the fatal collision.

According to the news report, the driver of the Malibu, who was not identified in this writing, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, identified as Halie Friesen, a junior at Circle High School suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.

The name of the school district the school bus belongs to was not mentioned in this writing. However, there were reportedly 14 children on the school bus at the time of the crash. Police added via the article, that no student passengers on the bus were injured. The crash remains under investigation.
