Ohio District Received School Buses with Lap/Shoulder Seatbelts

The Avon Lake City Schools has received two new school buses with lap/shoulder seatbelts, making it the first district in Ohio to add seatbelts to its bus fleet, reported Cleveland.com on July 7.

The two 72-passenger school buses will be used for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year and serve in the districts “Seat Belt Pilot Program.” The buses will provide the district information on whether or not more school buses with seatbelts will be purchased on an ongoing bias, the article reported.

The school board and City Council reportedly approved the cost of the $92,000 school buses, which will be used for transportation to sporting events or field trips.

The “School Bus Safety Alliance” organization in Ohio is hoping to spread the word and help establish a grant program for schools throughout the state to begin a seat belt program, said Cleveland.com.
