It is very likely that school bus drivers working for Las Cruces Public Schools in New Mexico will go on strike soon, according to a union representative, reported Las Cruces-Sun News.
Negotiations between the union and bus contractor that services the district reached an impasse Wednesday, and the collective bargaining agreement expires Thursday. No other negotiation meetings are scheduled.
“(W)e believe a strike is imminent for the members of LCTF 6341, an action which was unanimously supported by members of this union over concerns for student safety and quality buses and transportation equipment,” LCTF President Marcos Torres said in a joint statement with American Federation of Teachers New Mexico President Stephanie Ly.
