The New York School Bus Contractors Association announced is ramping up for its 45th Annual New York State School Bus Safety Competition at Rockland Lake State Park this weekend.
“It is our honor to be hosting the 45th Annual New York State School Bus Safety Competition,” said Mike Martucci, New York School Bus Contractors Association President. “Our Association’s school bus safety competition is the largest and only statewide competition in New York State. We attract drivers from school districts and private school bus contractors who compete to be the best in their respective categories.”
The association said more than 100 drivers will take part in the competition. Each will compete in a specific school bus division, including large Type C and Type D buses and smaller Type A school buses on cutaway van chassis.
The day begins with a comprehensive written exam on school bus safety, and a driver’s test gauges skills with a variety of hands-on activities including: vehicle inspections, loading and unloading students, operating a school bus through various driving courses, and managing railroad crossings.
The winners of the competition hosted by the New York School Bus Contractors Association will be eligible to compete in the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) International School Bus Safety Competition in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 16 and 17.
