The TSD Conference returns to Frisco, Texas, and with it provides attendees a new look from the onset.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Child Passenger Restraints on School Buses training, a requirement of the 40-hour child passenger safety technician certification, starts the action on March 9 after being moved up in the schedule. A team of expert instructors teach proper securement of preschool-aged children in appropriate child safety restraint systems on school bus seats. Attendees who complete the eight-hour course receive 5.5 continuing education units (CEUs) from Safe Kids Worldwide.
Conference organizers moved the NHTSA training from Sunday to Friday to benefit both attendees and instructors by allowing more flexibility in their schedules and to prevent the seminar does from competing with TSD Conference breakout workshops.

NHTSA is not the only event on March 9, however. The day culminates with “Then, Now & Tomorrow: Shared Wisdom from Special Needs Transportation Experts,” a general session that starts at 5:30 p.m. and marks the official start of the conference. The panel discussion focuses on the major tenets of transporting students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Featured are Tenured Faculty members Linda Bluth, Pauline Gervais, Alexandra Robinson and Sue Shutrump as they field questions from facilitator and fellow Tenured Faculty Peggy A. Burns, Esq.
Attendees and TSD Roadeo participants also attend a two-hour emergency evacuation training session presented by Kathleen Furneaux of the Pupil Transportation Institute and Eden Perez of the New York City Department of Education. Later that day, Bus in the Classroom returns to teach student transporters how to implement school bus rider programs for special education students that also provides lifelong independence lessons.
