Green School Bus Opportunities Highlight 23rd Annual School Bus EXPO

RENO, Nev. – Washoe County School District will highlight its adoption of propane school buses, one of many case studies presented during the North American School Bus EXPO Conference and Trade Show that starts Saturday.

More than 1,300 public- and private-sector school bus professionals from across the country are  expected to descend upon the Grand Sierra Resort starting this Saturday, July 23, 2016, for the 23rd annual event presented by School Transportation News and parent company STN Media Group.

New this year is the Green Bus Summit educational track, which launched last year as a one-day symposium. In addition to Washoe’s propane school bus story, school districts will discuss lessons learned from their transition to CNG and electric. Other sessions will show school bus operators how to calculate their own greenhouse gas emissions, discuss grant and funding opportunities for school districts, provide additional tools for determining economic benefits of alt fuels, and investigate the emergence for renewable diesel and renewable natural gas.

Several school bus OEMs will also provide training on their latest alt-fuel vehicle innovations and fueling infrastructure.

A general session on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, will feature a representative of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program leading a discussion with coordinators and members of Clean Cities Coalitions, which will cover grant opportunities and how the federal program can benefit school districts that are seeking partnerships in the alt-fuel transportation industry.

Following the general session, the Trade Show will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Grand Sierra Resort’s Nevada Exhibit Hall and Silver State Pavilion. More than 100 school bus companies are scheduled to attend.

An inaugural Ride & Drive will give conference attendees the chance to sit behind the wheel of new buses to experience the latest in clean diesel as well as alt-fuel engine technology, fuels, electronics and more. Nine manufacturers will give attendees full access to a number of vehicles, and OEM representatives will be on hand to answer questions. The Ride & Drive is on July 26 from 7 to 10:30 a.m. and on July 27 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
